In spring cloud gateway versions prior to 3.1.1+ and 3.0.7+ , applications are vulnerable to a code injection attack when the Gateway Actuator endpoint is enabled, exposed and unsecured. A remote attacker could make a maliciously crafted request that could allow arbitrary remote execution on the remote host.

CrowdSec analysis

CVE-2022-22947 is a critical vulnerability in Spring Cloud Gateway that enables remote code execution through an exposed actuator endpoint, allowing attackers to inject arbitrary configuration and execute commands.

CrowdSec has been tracking this vulnerability and its exploits since 10th of March 2025.

CrowdSec network data shows that most actors exploiting CVE-2022-22947 rely on broad, untargeted scans with minimal filtering. The activity is largely automated and opportunistic in nature. Data from the CrowdSec community also indicates a gradual decrease in attacks targeting CVE-2022-22947. While still present in the wild, exploitation levels have dropped noticeably week-over-week. This may signal that the vulnerability is becoming less relevant or that defenses are improving fast enough for attackers to lose interest.

Observed exploitation attempts typically focus on URLs containing /actuator/gateway/routes.
